He always seems to be on the go! go! go! & this time doesn't look to be any different. We finally got the chance to sit down & catch up with one half of the well known duo we gladly call UNI. Thurzday, gives us a brief look into upcoming projects & shows, his views on the L.A. hip hop scene & more. We love the love Thurz & still can't get enough of you.
B.C: So Thurzday, from what we know, you basically live in the studio, are you attempting to go the 2pac path of putting out enough material so that it speaks for itself and you don't have to really say much?
Thurz: I just like to stay busy, I feel that if I'm not in the studio recording something somebody else is going to be working and end up taking the spot that I've earned and reserved. Live in the moment, make music in the moment.
B.C: So what's with this Before there was love project? Fill us in.
Thurz: It's a mixtape done with Mick Boogie to promote "A love supreme" with Ro Blvd
B.C: I'm loving the mixtape Mick did with Adelle. How'd your collabo with him come about?
Thurz: Him and 6th Sense reached out to us for VH1's Hip Hop Honors mixtape. We re-did De La Soul's "Stakes is High". He loved Love Supreme and was down to do a mixtape for us.
B.C: So, how'd that go? You guys plan on getting back in the lab in the future?
Thurz: I'd like to continue to work with him in the future. He's killin the mixtape game.
B.C: Wait, wait, let's get back to the De La re-make. You're a pretty heavy De La fan, were you nervous to do that song?
Thurz: Yesss its a huge song & it was like a changing point in hip hop where the flashy point was becoming too common and De La has always stayed away from that and have been represented in the right way. It was a big move to remake it & to do so in our own way. Posdnuos bigged it up so it's all good.
B.C: Well, you can't get anymore validated than that. So..when are we gonna get to see UNI back on stage?
Thurz: Next show is the 29th with Blu and Wale @ The Key club & i think feb 6th we have a show out here too.
B.C: Speaking of "out here" I have to say it...What do you think of the L.A. hip hop scene?
Thurz: Uh..there's a lot of talent our there. We got Shawn Jackson, we got H.O.P.E, Co$$, Blu, Evidence, a lot of groups etc. Everyone has something different to offer and this is the birth of a Renaissance in music & UNI is at the top of that list.
B.C: Well, spit yo game & talk to shit. Anything you want to say before you run up out of here?
Thurz: "Broke mirrors, open umbrellas, walkin under-latters, I'm so anti-don't matter...get ya white rabbit and ya supastition in tact...it's funny how niggas that hated are black cats...."
B.C: You can't just drop bars on us & not tell us where they're from. Why haven't we heard that before?
Thurz: It's on "Before There Was Love" it's a nice little collaboration track. You'll hear about it next week.
B.C: So, you're running off, as expected. You want to at least tell us what you'll be working on in the lab tonight?
Thurz: Just doing some mixing.
B.C: I see. Do you always play such a big part in the behind the mic aspect of your projects?
Thurz: I just like clarity so I try to sit in and make sure you can always understand what we're saying in the verse. I need it to be clear.
B.C: Well let me stop bullshitt'n and let you get up outta here, but since you like clarity...just to be clear L.A. Bella is tryn'a hear the anticipated project before next week. See what you can do.
Thurz: Of course.
B.C: Anything else you want to leave us with?
Thurz: That was a short interview. lol
B.C: You're the one with the studio session, busy man.
Thurz: You right, let me go.
Till next time xoxo B.C. of L.a. Bella
